It is also ideal to prepare the skin of your patients before more extensive treatments in order to optimize results and patient satisfaction.
BELA MD+ has the flexibility to meet the needs of your practice as well as your patients with customizable treatment modalities:
- Dry diamond microdermabrasion
- Hydrogen water infusion
- Ultrasonic cleanse and extraction
- Neuromuscular stimulation
- BELA MD serum infusion
- Electroporation
Microdermabrasion with Aqua handpiece and diamond tip
HydraFacial uses a unique, patented Vortex-Fusion delivery system to exfoliate, extract and hydrate skin, and, the spiral design delivers painless extractions.
Hydrogen therapy with the H2 module
Hydrogen therapy works by combining hydrogen (H+) with free radicals (OH-) to produce water (H2O). The BELA MD H2 module transforms tap water into hydrogen rich water which is infused into the skin using the Aqua handpiece to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation while boosting brightness and hydration.
Infusion with Aqua handpiece and Aqua tip
The Aqua handpiece is a closed looped system. BELA MD bio-infusion serum or hydrogen water is emitted from the central aperture of the Aqua tip and infused into the skin along the contact path. Remaining solution dissolves any impurities, then exits through the waste inlet port. The BELA MD+ touchscreen interface allows for easy and precise adjustments of vacuum & flow levels.
Cleansing and extraction with the Ultrasonic Skin Scrubber
The Ultrasonic Skin Scrubber is a metal spatula that oscillates with ultrasonic vibrations creating a “pressure washing” effect. The ultrasonic waves help loosen and remove oil, dirt, and cellular debris from pores. It can also be used for sonophoresis during which ultrasounds drive active ingredients into the skin by disrupting its lipid layer.
Facial and neck toning with the double lifting Y handpiece
The BELA MD Y Handpiece uses 360-degree rotating massage balls and Micro-current Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (MENS) technology to provide muscle stimulation, skin tightening and a lifting effect. Its design enables a relaxing massage while repeated muscle contraction and relaxation boost circulation and toning.
Latest generation bio-infusion serums
Each BELA MD bio-infusion serum is designed to target common skin concerns, while providing an overall improvement in skin quality with multi-functional ingredient blends. Advanced encapsulation technology protects serum ingredients and stability, while enhancing penetration to boost results.
Electroporation to optimize the absorption of serums deep into the skin
During electroporation, a gentle electrical field is applied to the skin to increase its permeability. Intracellular channels temporarily open which allows active ingredients to penetrate deeper layers of the skin. Once the current stops, skin cells return to there normal state with the active ingredients enclosed inside of them. Electroporation is used with the bPURE Hyaluronic Acid serum and could also be used with any conductive and gliding treatment serum.

CO2 laser skin resurfacing
CO2 laser skin resurfacing
Using lasers to help improve skin texture and appearance.

Fine to moderate wrinkles· Liver spots· Uneven skin tone· Sun-damaged skin· Acne scars· Chickenpox scars· Mild scarring· Actinic keratosis· Seborrheic keratosis· Stretch marks·
What is laser skin resurfacing
Co2 Laser skin resurfacing is a type of skin care procedure at Hermosa Med Spa using lasers to help improve skin texture and appearance.
Depending on your individual needs, CO2 laser resurfacing treatments are used to get rid of scars, warts, and deep wrinkles. Erbium is used for finer lines and wrinkles, along with other superficial skin concerns. Both types of ablative lasers remove outside layers of the skin.
What can CO2 laser skin resurfacing treat
Fractional laser CO2 skin resurfacing is golden standard treatment solution that does require 5 to 7 days of downtime to treat:
Fine to moderate wrinkles
Liver spots
Uneven skin tone
Sun-damaged skin
Acne scars
Chickenpox scars
Mild scarring
Actinic keratosis
Seborrheic keratosis
Stretch marks
What does CO2 laser skin resurfacing correct?

Acne Scars
Although CO2 laser is excellent at addressing a variety of the signs of aging, it is also the optimal treatment available for deep acne scars. Patients of all ages can benefit from the results of a CO2 laser treatment if they do not want to live with a remnant of acne scars from days gone by.
CO2 lasers were effective in treating acne scars. However, combination therapy may be more beneficial for people with ice-pick acne scars.
At Hermosa Med Spa, we usually combine with Infini Microneedling RF to treat moderate acne scars.
Wrinkles
CO2 laser is excellent at addressing a variety of the signs of aging, it is also the optimal treatment available for fine lines & Wrinkles.

Dark Spots & Sun Damage
CO2 laser is excellent at addressing a variety of the signs of dark spots, it is also the optimal treatment available for pigmentations & sun damages.
Stretch Mark
CO2 laser is an excellent treatment available for stretch marks.

It truly depends on how well you protect your skin from sun damage and environmental factors like smoking. Natural factor such as aging, general overall health and changes in weight can also impact the long-term results. However, if you apply sunscreen and have a healthy life style, you can maintain your excellent results for many years.
Avoid picking at the skin or rubbing skin vigorously when cleaning it or in the shower.
Avoid hot showers.
Care for the skin after laser resurfacing is similar to managing a second-degree thermal burn.
Keeping the wound moist and dressing regularly promotes faster healing.
Antibiotics, painkillers and anti-itching medications can be administered if necessary.
Two methods of wound dressing may be used:
Open type: Apply an occlusive ointment (like petroleum jelly) till skin heals. Avoid topical antibiotics.
Closed type: Apply semi-occlusive biosynthetic dressing until skin heals. It is painless and promotes faster healing. It is expensive, however, and requires frequent clinic visits and increases the chance of infection.
Some patients report visible results after one treatment. The results will typically continue to improve over the next few months.
Recovery from CO2 laser resurfacing of the entire face is seven to 14 days, depending on the depth.
Post-resurfacing swelling is expected. It peaks at day two or three, and then usually subsides by days five or seven.
Redness and itching are common.
During the first week, there are varying degrees of oozing and crusting depending on the dressing used.
Applying the ointment we provide for the first week.
Start applying moisturizer for the next two to three weeks.
The doctor may recommend post-procedure skin reconditioning early during the healing process.
Avoid products that contain acids such salicylic acid, glycolic acid, etc., until the skin has completely regenerated, healed and skin tolerance has returned.
Laser Toning
Laser Toning
Lawer toning and tightening is a non-surgical cosmetic correction that utiliazes laser to penetrate the deeper layer of skin.

Uneven Skintone·
What is laser toning
Laser toning uses both 755 nm alexandrite laser and 1064nm Nd Yag Laser that can reach deep into the skin and break up the pigments, leaving you with a brighter and clearer complexion. Laser toning is very comfortable and incredibly safe; instead of high heat, it uses a very gentle laser that leaves your skin undamaged. That safety also lends a quality of adaptability, so it is perfect for people of all skin types and those with other existing skin conditions like:
- Uneven skintone
- Active acne
- Acne scar
- Sunspots
- Vascular problem
- Roscea
- Blackhead
For people suffering from skin conditions like melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a flawless skin tone might seem even more elusive. Laser toning is one of the most effective treatments for melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
The benefits of laser toning
Lawer toning and tightening is a non-surgical cosmetic correction that utiliazes laser to penetrate the deeper layer of skin to:
- Promote collagen production to increase skin strength, elasticity and radiance.
- Restore skin’s ablility to heal and skin barrier.
- Fill in fine lines & wrinkles.
- Stimulate blood vessels to constrict and function.
- Minimal discomfort.
- Minimal or no downtime. Only warm sensation to the skin and mild redness, usually fading within couple of hours.
Laser toning VS IPL
Those days,IPL devices work about as well as laser treatments for some cosmetic treatments, such as fading blood vessels treatment, and superficial pigmentation problems .For hair removal, IPL works better on thick, dark hair than on fine, light hair. For other skin concerns, laser treatments require fewer sessions than IPL, and they can be more safely used on dark skin.
Melasma treatment is not as simple as that of sunspots, partly due to the differences in melanocyte behaviour. Melasma—the perennially dark patches of skin caused by excessive melanin—is usually hormone-induced, meaning that it is either something you are born with or something that is triggered by a treatment or health condition. If IPL is used on a case of melasma, the pigmentation will darken and worsen, not go away. A proper melasma treatment, therefore, requires an approach that is less superficial than IPL.
This is where laser toning, which is based on focused penetration, comes in. The enhanced wavelength of a laser toning treatment will pass through the layers of skin and eliminate the unwanted melanocytes. Your melasma will be safely and effectively treated, your sun spots won’t return, and your body will eliminate the dead cells through urination.
What does laser toning treat?

Skin Tone & Texture
The HydraFacial™ resurfacing treatment thoroughly enhances the skin using patented Vortex Technology™ to cleanse, exfoliate, extract, and hydrate simultaneously which brightens and balances skin tone while minimizing the appearance of darks spots and sun spots.

Redness & Veins
After one to three treatments, light therapy can get rid of 50%-75% of broken blood vessels for most people. They could completely go away. While treated veins don’t come back, new ones might show up later.
If rosacea causes your face to flush, IPL can be a good alternative to laser therapy.
Dark Spots & Sun Damage
You may see 70% less of the brown spots and redness caused by ultraviolet (UV) rays.

IPL Intense Pulse Light
IPL Intense Pulse Light
Treats brown spots, sun spots, broken capillaries, fine lines and it can also help alleviate the symptoms associated with rosacea.

Acne Scars· Dark Spots· Wrinkles· Redness & Veins· Redness & Rosacea· Pigmentation & Sun Damage· Freckles·
What is IPL (Intense Pulse Light)
IPL also known as photo rejuvenation is a non-invasive and non-ablative treatment. Usually recommended as a monthly skin management treatment, leaving the skin looking brighter, smoother, and more radiant.
IPL uses high intensity pulses of light to help improve the tone, texture and appearance of the skin. IPL can be used in the treatment of brown spots, sun spots, broken capillaries, fine lines and it can also help alleviate the symptoms associated with rosacea.

After 2 treatments
Benefits of IPL
- Improves tone and skin texture
- Customisable for different skin type and skin conditions
- Treatment for broken capillaries and redness
- Treatment for active acne
- Medium and dark hair reducution treatment with minimum pain

The recommended protocol for optimal results is 3-6 sessions at 4-week intervals. Depending on the severity of the condition being treated more treatments may be required.
No sun bathing, tanning beds or sunless tanning creams two weeks before and four weeks after your laser treatment. The presence of any tan decreases the effectiveness of the laser and can increase the chance of post-treatment complications.
After IPL treatment, using sun protection at all times is recommended to avoid recurrence of the pigmentation.
- Are sensitive to light
- Have recently tanned your skin using sunlight, tanning beds, or tanning creams
- Might have skin cancer
- Use a retinoid cream
- Are very dark-skinned
- Have a skin resurfacing disorder
- Have severe scarring

Infini Micro Needling RF
Infini Micro Needling RF
It’s a systerm conbines micornedling technology with RF to sitmulate collagen production, helping to treat moderate acne, acne scars, stretch marks, and sagging skin.

Acne· Stretch Mark· Skine Tone· Enlarged Pores·
What is Infini microneedling RF
Radiofrequency is a nonsurgical method practitioners use to tighten skin. These devices deliver electrical energy into your skin and heat a targeted area to stimulate collagen production. Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses very small needles to cause microinjuries to your skin, which also stimulates collagen production to help repair the injuries.
Unlike microneedling alone, the combination of radiofrequency and microneedling can reach the dermis, making it effective for all skin types, minimizing the risk for hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones.
Why choose Infini microneedling RF
Most patients can see noticible improvements with only three treatments.
Compare to CO2 laser, infini does not damge the epidermis, there is minimal risk of hyperpigmentation, and patients have much less downtime, they can wear makeup the next day.
Patients can see better results with Infini compare to other microneedling RF devices, Infini can reach 3.5mm deep into skin to treat deeper acne scars, stretch marks and see more skin tightening effects.
How does it work
Practitioner will numb treatment area with a topical numbing cream from 40 to 60 minutes before the procedure.
The entire proceduure will take 30 to 45 minutes to complete. Patients will experience temporary mild bleeding, swelling and redness, usually resolves in fewer than 3 days.
A minimum of three treatments is recommended, usually space 4 to 8 weeks apart.
What does Infini microneedling RF correct?

Acne Scars
All types of scars can be treated, but particularly acne scars and Infini is safe for use on darker skin types.
Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, and around the eyes. Particularly good results can be achieved with cheek lines.

Skin Tightening
Loose skin can be tightened on the face (non-surgical facelift) with the neck and jawline being most popular. Other body areas such as chest, knees abdomen, and arms can also be treated.
Stretch Mark
Infini Micro Needling RF is an excellent treatment available for stretch marks.

Enlarged Pores
When microneedling on enlarged pores, the skin, for some days looks a bit rough and the pores appear bigger because of the damage caused by the needles. After a natural wound healing response is activated, that produces new collagen, the skin looks plumped up and tightened and the enlarged pore becomes smaller.
The micro needling technology of the Infini enables the needle to be inserted at variable depths, and hence the energy can be delivered at different levels. This is important to individualise treatment as some areas of the skin are different in thickness than other areas, and also some skin conditions require deeper treatment levels than others.
The Infini can treat at a much deeper skin level than Lasers. By using microneedles, the Infini can reach up to 3.5 mm below the surface of the skin, which is why it can reach the deep dermis layer of the skin and result in collagen production and skin tightening. Lasers used in cosmetic medicine target structures in the epidermis and upper dermis of the skin and do not have much effect below about 1.5mm depth. This means lasers are best for treating the surface of the skin and are the treatment of choice for such things as removing unwanted pigment, blood vessels, hair, and tattoo ink.
The other significant advantage of radiofrequency energy is that it is ‘colour blind’ which means it doesn’t matter how dark the skin is or even if the surface is tanned at the time of treatment. In contrast, Laser energy is very colour dependent, and great care needs to be exercised when using lasers to treat darker skin types and tanned skin, because of the risk of unwanted side effects such as increased pigmentation.
The Infini uses microneedle technology primarily because by delivering Radiofrequency energy through a needle, the heating can be accurately and safely directed and localised into the dermis of the skin.
Various devices in the past have tried to apply radiofrequency energy onto the surface of the skin to heat below the surface, but results were disappointing. This is because to heat the deeper dermis to a high enough temperature to stimulate collagen is difficult without damaging the surface of the skin. Differences in skin thickness, hydration, collagen, and fat make the depth of heating unpredictable. If tissue heating doesn’t occur at the right level at the right temperature, then minimal collagen stimulation occurs, and poor results are achieved.
Trauma from the needles penetrating the skin also causes mechanical stimulation to fibroblast cells in the skin to also help in producing collagen.
The needles used with the Infini are gold plated to minimise any chance of allergy. The needles are very fine, only 200 microns (0.2mm) thick. The Infini uses a tip that has 49 tiny needles (also called pins), and they deliver the energy in what is called a fractional mode. The needles are insulated, which means that the energy is directed through the tip of the needle, and heating can be accurately targeted and controlled.
The Infini is a fractional radiofrequency machine. The idea of fractionating energy was first used in the Fraxel laser in 2005 and essentially what it means is multiple discrete points of skin are treated surrounded by unaffected skin. Fractionated treatment assists wound repair and result in faster skin healing, less discomfort, and greater safety for the patient.
No, everyone cannot have Infini, but in practice, very few patients need to be excluded. Patients with cardiac pacemakers or implanted defibrillators should not have any electric type treatments, including Infini. Patients with cochlear implants should also avoid radiofrequency treatments because of potential damage to the implant.
If there is a metal implant in the area being treated, the skin overlying the metal implant should not be treated. If someone has a known allergy to metals then caution needs to be exercised as the Infini uses metal pins; however, the needles used in the Infini are gold tipped to reduce the chance of any metal sensitivity.
Patients with acute skin disease should not have any cosmetic treatments, including Infini.
Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding are as a general rule advised against all elective procedures, including the Infini. While there is no evidence, it is not safe, there is also no evidence to prove it is entirely safe. Also, it does involve the use of quite strong topical anaesthetics, and we recommend deferring Infini treatments until after breastfeeding.
Patients with severe medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune diseases, or cancer can have Infini but will not get as good a result because of impaired skin healing. Similarly, patients who are unwell or are smokers will not tend to respond as well to Infini compared to healthy patients.
Patients on certain medications need to be more cautious before having Infini treatments such as patients on blood thinners who might bruise more easily and drugs that cause photosensitivity that might have a more severe reaction after treatment.
The Infini needles are virtually painless as they are inserted into the skin because they are so fine and are inserted very fast. Also, the 49 microneedles in the tip of the Infini handpiece do not all punch into the skin at the same time but are inserted serially in rows. However, when the radiofrequency energy is delivered through the needles, it can be felt and cause discomfort from the heating below the surface of the skin. Hence for an Infini treatment, a topical anaesthetic is applied before treatment. When the topical anaesthetic is used, most people rate the procedure as only 4 out of 10 in terms of pain.
If someone has metal pins, implants, or artificial joints in other parts of their body, they can experience a tingling sensation in those areas during an Infini treatment. This is caused by the electric current used in Radiofrequency energy but is not painful.
Topical anaesthetic cream is applied 60 minutes before treatment. During treatment, a cooling machine (such as a Zimmer cooler) can be used but is not essential as the insulated needles used with the INFINI avoid heat damage to the surface of the skin. Treatment of a full face takes about 45 minutes and face and neck about 60 minutes.
Each area is typically treated at different depths with 2 passes for each depth. There can be some pinpoint bleeding when the microneedles penetrate the skin and occasional bruising. After treatment, a cold pack is used, and then a soothing cream applied. Recovery time can be reduced by the use of a special LED light straight after treatment.
The general expectation is to have some downtime for about 48 hours after an Infini treatment. There is some initial redness and swelling after the procedure, this reduces quite quickly in the first few hours then some residual redness typically lasts for about 2 days. There is sunburn-like sensation after treatment due to the heating beneath the skin, and this also gradually dissipates over the first 48 hours.
Typically some early improvement is seen due to collagen contraction and tissue swelling then further gradual improvement continues to occur over the next few months. Full results take 4-6 months, as this is how long it takes collagen remodelling to be completed.
Most patients see improvement with only one treatment, but optimal results in facial rejuvenation, skin tightening, and Hyperhidrosis typically takes 3 treatments. It is important to remember that the Infini is fractional technology, with areas of healthy skin left surrounding the areas being treated to minimise downtime and side effects and allow for rapid healing. These areas of untreated skin are targeted in subsequent treatments. The best results with acne scarring can take 5-6 treatments.
The usual interval between INFINI treatments is 3-4 weeks, but they can be spaced further apart if necessary, and this will not adversely affect the final results. In facial rejuvenation and skin tightening, it is usually recommended to have a follow-up treatment every 12-18 months to maintain results.
The Infini is an ideal treatment to combine with lasers because it is so targeted without damaging the surface of the skin. One example is in the rejuvenation of sun-damaged skin, we can treat with the Infini to improve the elasticity and wrinkles followed with the 1927 Fraxel Laser to treat surface pigmentation.
Topical treatments can also be combined with the Infini. The micro needling creates an opening in the skin for topical products to penetrate and be more effective compared to when they are just applied to healthy skin. Products that have been used successfully include Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Growth factors, and Hydroquinone.
Treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections are best not performed on the same day as Infini if they are in the same area. The heat from the radiofrequency can reduce the effectiveness of the anti-wrinkle injections and also tissue swelling after Infini treatment can potentially result in the migration of the anti-wrinkle product and unwanted side effects. Dermal fillers based on Hyaluronic Acid can also potentially be broken down more quickly if the Infini is used in the same area.

Erbium Yag Laser Skin Resurfacing
Erbium Yag Laser Skin Resurfacing
Improving the appearance of wrinkles and skin imperfections caused by acne, burns, surgical scars and trauma to the skin.

Wrinkles · Acne· Burns· Surgical Scars·
What is Erbium Yag Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing, also known as a laser peel, is the perfect non-surgical choice for those looking to safely and effectively repair damaged skin while stimulating new collagen growth.
It can be used on the face, neck, chest and body. It is the only laser that can safely be used on the periorbital (around the eyes) and perioral areas (around the mouth). These areas are often the first to show signs of aging and can be the most difficult to treat.
Erbium is a laser skin-resurfacing module that ablates the epidermis, which is the outermost layer of the skin.
The treatment uses laser technology to create tiny microscopic holes similar to that of fractionated CO2 laser treatments.

How does it work
The process of microscopically damaging a fraction of the skin, also known as tissue vaporization, induces the production of new skin. This process allows the undamaged areas of the skin to provide anatomical support towards the healing of the injured epidermis. Erbium fractional laser treatments have the same function as CO2 lasers. They remove the top layers of the skin, causing new skin to be produced. The new skin has increased qualities in the smoothness and firmness of the skin on the face.
What does Erbium Yag Laser correct?

Acne Scars
The Fractional Laser tool is the leading resurfacing solution for improving the appearance of wrinkles and skin imperfections caused by acne, burns, surgical scars and trauma to the skin.
Wrinkles
Erbium laser resurfacing is designed to remove surface-level and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck, or chest. This laser causes fewer side effects — such as swelling, bruising, and redness — so your recovery time should be faster than with CO2 laser resurfacing. In some cases, recovery may only take one week. If you have a darker skin tone, erbium laser resurfacing may work better for you.

Recovery Notes
Healing will take approximately 1 week. Typically the recovery of an erbium laser treatment will be around half the time of a CO2 laser ablation. There will be some mild swelling and discomfort in the first 1-2 days althouhg redness may persist for several weeks. Antibiotic ointment or pills as well as antiviral pills may be given to prevent any infection.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for erbium laser resurfacing has a lighter skin tone and wishes to target localized areas of wrinkles around the mouth or eyes, for example, may with to utilize a technique with the precision of a laser compared to other options such as chemical peels. Erbium laser ablation is ideal for someone with more mild to moderate lines and sun damage that would prefer an easier recovery compared to CO2 laser ablation.
Not Recommended
Erbium laser resurfacing is not recommended for use on darker skin tones due to risk of hypopigmentation.
Side Effects
Side effects from erbium laser skin resurfacing may include burns or other injuries from the laser’s heat, scarring, changes in the skin’s pigmentation (including areas of darker or lighter skin), reactivating herpes cold sores, bacterial infection, and milia may appear in the laser-treated areas during healing.

Dark Spots
PicoSure® is the first of a new generation of aesthetic lasers that don’t rely solely on heat to burn or melt away unwanted tattoo ink or melanin, the pigment that causes dark spots in your skin.
There is no downtime with PicoSure® Focus™ facials. Patients may experience erythema that typically resolves within a few hours, but in some cases, may linger up to 24 hours. Since each patient is unique, we highly recommend following the outlined clinical guidelines to help optimize safety and efficacy before treatment.

What does Picoway® correct?

Acne Scars
Did you know that nearly 40% of those with acne have some degree of scarring? Many acne scars result from a loss of collagen in the skin. PicoWay® Resolve treatment uses an ultra-short, picosecond laser that reaches below the surface of the skin to stimulate production of collagen and elastin, without breaking the outermost layer of the skin. In clinical studies, 94% of treated areas improved and patients were highly satisfied with results.
Wrinkles
Millions of people each year seek treatment for their wrinkles.10 Wrinkles can be caused by a loss of collagen in the skin.
The PicoWay® Resolve applicator on the PicoWay® system is a non-invasive, needle free treatment option for wrinkles. Resolve uses ultra-short laser pulses to reach under the skin, without breaking the outer layer of the skin. Picosecond lasers are proven to stimulate collagen and elastin.

Dark Spots
Skin discoloration is common, yet treatable. Dark spots, or benign pigmented lesions, appear in many people on different areas of the skin. Some spots are related to excessive sun exposure. Others can be caused by hormone changes, often impacting women following pregnancy. Many of these skin discolorations can be distressing and affect quality of life.
Tattoo Removal
The PicoWay® system is a high power laser with ultra short pulses that shatters tattoo ink, but leaves the outer layer of the skin intact. The PicoWay® laser treats a wide range of tattoo colors across a broad range of skin types. Over a series of brief treatments, the PicoWay® laser can eliminate most tattoos. That’s why the PicoWay® laser is the tattoo removal laser of choice by Removery, the nation’s leading tattoo removal provider.

PicoWay® works in two ways ·
Picoway® Laser
PicoWay® laser handpieces come in either full beam or split beam types. Each handpiece is designed for a particular use or uses, some for tattoos and some for removal of pigment or treatment of wrinkles or acne scars.
All handpieces on the PicoWay® laser target pigment in the skin. Pigment can be naturally formed, caused by too much melanin in the skin. This appears as dark spots on the skin that can either be seen at birth or form over time from sun damage (sometimes called sun spots), aging, or even be a result of medical conditions. Pigment can also be added to the skin, in the form of ink in a tattoo. In either case, the PicoWay® laser targets the pigment and shatters it into tiny particles that are no longer seen through the skin.
Picoway® Resolve and Resolve Fusion
The laser beams in PicoWay® Resolve and Resolve Fusion are split from a central beam into 100 identical beams, or beamlets. Resolve Fusion has a wider coverage area than Resolve. These beamlets reach below the skin’s surface in areas that are spaced evenly apart. Because the laser is so fast and powerful, it creates a non-thermal effect, called a “photoacoustic” effect. Tiny open spaces are created under the skin that are then filled in over time with the growth of new collagen and elastin.
The PicoWay® laser literally works from the inside out. The treatment does not cause the outer layers of the skin to break, so patients enjoy low to no downtime after treatment.
The PicoWay® laser is an ultra-fast picosecond laser that treats acne scars, wrinkles, benign pigmented lesions and tattoo removal.
The PicoWay® Resolve laser is a treatment on the PicoWay® laser system, that uses a laser handpiece that splits the full beam into tiny microbeams. This allows treatment of conditions like acne scars, wrinkles and benign pigmented lesions. PicoWay® Resolve acts by creating tiny open spaces, called vacuoles, under the skin where new collagen and elastin are built and can transform the skin over time.4,5,8
PicoWay® treatments are typically brief (15-20 minutes) and are done over a series of treatment sessions spaced weeks apart.8 Your doctor will recommend a treatment plan that works best for you.
If you are looking for a laser treatment that acts below the surface of the skin and offers low to no downtime, then the PicoWay laser may be the right laser for you. Ask your doctor if PicoWay laser treatment can minimize your acne scars or wrinkles or remove bothersome dark spots and tattoos that you no longer want.
The PicoWay laser is FDA cleared for certain uses: acne scars, wrinkles, dark spots (benign pigmented lesions), and tattoo removal. If you are looking for other laser treatment, such as hair removal, then the PicoWay laser is not the treatment for you. Candela offers hair removal devices, such as the Gentle Max Pro laser.
While the PicoWay laser works on both lighter and darker skin types, depending on the wavelength and applicator needed for your treatment, the PicoWay laser may not be the best treatment for your skin type. Your treatment provider will know which PicoWay applicator is best for your skin type and treatment needs.
Treatments with the PicoWay laser typically involve a series of treatment sessions, so that is an important consideration in your treatment decision. A PicoWay laser treatment provider can walk you through your treatment needs and will be the best source for determining whether treatment with the PicoWay laser is right for you.
Side effects with the PicoWay laser are typically transient and expected as part of the laser treatment.1-6 Patients experience low to no downtime. In some cases, patients may use a topical anesthetic to enhance comfort during the treatment. More common side effects include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, tingling or purplish spots. These effects will differ, however, depending on the treatment you receive.
How PicoWay feels will be dependent on the treatment you receive. Those undergoing tattoo removal are likely to experience some pain and discomfort with treatment.
With PicoWay Resolve treatment, most patients reported low levels of pain during treatment for wrinkles and mild to no discomfort for acne scar or dark spot treatment.
Depending on the condition treated, you may be able to see initial improvement as early as after the first treatment. Typically, multiple treatment sessions are needed. As an example, a clinical study of benign pigmented lesions found that after 2 treatments, 87% of lesions had a least good response (>50% had a good response or better).
With PicoWay Resolve treatment, most patients reported low levels of pain during treatment for wrinkles and mild to no discomfort for acne scar treatment.
Yes, treatment with the PicoWay laser has low to no downtime. Most people can return to their activities of daily living shortly after treatment. You may need a bandage to keep the treatment area dry for a few days following tattoo removal.
PicoWay is a picosecond laser with high peak power and ultra-short pulse durations for a photoacoustic, rather than a photothermal effect that can overheat the skin. The majority of PicoWay patients report high patient satisfaction and low to no downtime.
PicoWay laser treatment cost varies by treatment type and provider. Treatment cost will vary depending on the type of treatment, size of treatment area, number of treatment sessions and other factors. In general, it can be assumed that treating a larger area, such as a large tattoo, is a higher cost than treating a small tattoo or dark spot.
